REAL Talk #6

What’s up? Appreciate you for checking in. Let’s keep it REAL, we’ve all heard the saying, “Be You”, but have we really thought about what that means or the REAL importance of being you? In all honesty, people can continue to tell us to be ourselves, but if we don’t really know what this means or why we need to do it, then who cares? (We do) We want to give you two questions you should always have the answer to because they will positively shape your decision-making for any situation. It’s extremely important to understand what this “Be You” saying means. The two questions are, “Who are you?” and “Why are you?”. The answers to these questions will shape your life in the way you want it. You’ll have full control of how you move through life and will put yourself in situations that will allow you to fully embrace being yourself. Let’s get into each question:

Who are you?

Let’s keep it REAL, many people don’t really know how to answer this. They’re looking for the right answer or what people want to hear. The truth is, who you are has little to do with anyone else. The answer is inside of each of us, which means the answer is unique for everybody. So, it makes sense that this question isn’t asked in school; how would somebody be able to grade you on who you are? Doesn’t really make sense. This means that it really is up to you to figure out who you are. To be REAL, this is one of the most important questions we need to answer because it will dictate how we move in life. To answer this, the first thing we need to do is to be completely honest with ourselves… about ourselves. The good news is you don’t have to share this with anybody right away. In fact, it’s probably a good idea to reflect on this question and find the brutal truth about who we are before sharing with others. When you combine reflection and honesty, answers will start to pour out of you. Deep down, we all know who we are, we just might not be willing to accept it. When you figure out your answer, certain decisions you made will start to make sense. You’ll start to understand why you act or react a certain way. You’ll realize that who you are never has and never will change. You are YOU! Embrace who you are, but you first must know who you are. Take your time with this, but do it to show appreciation for who you are because there’s only one of you.

Why are you?

This one might be a little easier to answer, but it’s still a question that requires REAL reflection and honesty. It’s simple, not easy. Why are you here? Why do you exist? Everybody has a reason to be in this world. What’s yours? Again, we all know the answer to this, we just have to reflect and be honest about what our true purpose in this world is. Think about it this way, we all want to be happy. That’s everybody’s true goal at the end of the day. We will go into a helpful tip in a second, but maybe a useful way to think about your purpose is to think about what you can contribute to society that will positively contribute to helping everybody reach their goal of happiness. Maybe this way of thinking about it will help you figure out your puzzle piece. We all have our piece to contribute to this world, we just have to figure out where we fit.

We appreciate you!

Yo, thank you for taking a second to keep it REAL with us. We want to continue to share these mindsets with the culture to make our own positive contribution to society. REAL is who we are, and YOU are why we do what we do. We want to uplift our culture through education and learning. Answering these two questions for yourself will help you in any situation. To keep it REAL, without answers to these questions, we are lost. These questions help us with our direction. Every decision we make should positively contribute to that direction. For reading this far (even though this is very short; we still appreciate you!), here are a couple of mindsets to consider when thinking about these difficult questions. When you’re reflecting on who you are, think about what genuinely makes you happy that you can’t physically touch? (We reiterate, be completely honest) So not your phone, laptop or social media since you have to scroll with your thumb. The reason this will help you is because things you can touch eventually rust or rot, but the things we can’t touch will last forever (i.e., love, laughter, etc.). When you know, you’ll know.

When you’re thinking about your purpose, it might be worth considering what comes naturally to you. Steve Harvey, an international comedian from Cleveland, Ohio, realized he could find humor in any situation. He decided, without the approval of almost everyone in his family, he was going to tell jokes to provide laughter to society. He used something he was naturally good at to positively contribute to society’s happiness. We believe everybody has that natural gift that’s unique to who they are that they can use to help our society become a better place. Find what that is and watch how you change the world!

Keep it REAL.
