What’s up? As we get into the beginning of the school year, we all know how it goes. Let’s keep it REAL, we all want to recreate ourselves this year in some way. Whether that’s a new look you’re going for or your goal is to become the most popular student at school this year, the beginning of a new school year is filled with opportunities. Many of us might even want to get better grades, but if we are all being honest, that’s not always priority #1 on our list. REAL was created to kill all these birds with one stone. Yes, you can have your new look, become the most popular at school and get the grades you want! But what’s cool about getting good grades? Let us explain.
Before we dive into the importance of education and learning, let’s discuss what it means to be “cool”. What do you think? We believe “cool” is all about confidence. We know that might sound cliche, but it’s the truth. The coolest person in school is usually the most confident at whatever they do, whether that’s sports, music or fashion. Let’s keep it REAL, we all want this. We all want to be considered “cool”. We can lie to ourselves and say that it’s not important and we should focus on more important things, but we would be lying to you if we said we didn’t care about being cool.

Since cool is all about confidence, how do we become confident? Let’s start with the difference between confidence and arrogance because they can sometimes get confused for one another. Confidence is all about the effort you put in. It’s as simple as that. When you are confident, that means you’ve done the work necessary to believe in yourself. You’ve figured out the true key to the door of success, which is effort. Remember the chess piece that represents effort…? Yes, it’s the Bishop. That’s the piece that can move diagonally as far as you want it to move. Just like the Bishop, effort will take you wherever you need to go. It’s inevitable.
Now, let’s think about arrogance. This is very close to being the opposite of confidence. Let’s keep it REAL, arrogant individuals don’t truly understand the importance of effort. They believe that they will get wherever they need to go just because they are who they are. Further, when someone is arrogant, they look down on others. Especially those individuals who put in effort. They laugh at effort on the outside, but deep down, they’re scared of effort because it’s tough. It’s easy to just think of yourself highly without putting in the work, but how “cool” is that?
Let’s consider a quick example. Was Kobe Bryant cool? Was he arrogant or confident? To answer these questions, just consider his work ethic. He worked harder than most players who ever stepped foot on a basketball court. He was obsessed with the work he put in. If “cool” was simply a matter of who worked the hardest, Kobe would be the coolest basketball player to ever live. Not only that, but when he finished playing, he continued his obsessive work ethnic by writing novels and short films. Winning an Oscar is pretty cool in our opinion.

Now let’s bring this full circle. When it comes to school, why not have the same mindset. If you want to be “cool”, why not put in the work necessary to build your confidence? Seems like the perfect ingredients for becoming the most popular student at school. In the past, our culture has glorified the students who could care less about school as if that’s the cool thing to do. But what ends up happening to these individuals? We will leave that up to you to investigate but our point is that education and learning is the coolest thing you could be a part of. When you build confidence based on your work ethic, you realize how addicting it becomes and you want to continue to have the same mindset in whatever you do. That’s big picture thinking! Think about how cool your life will be when you embrace education and learning in whatever you decide to do, including school. Let’s make this the best school year you’ve ever had by embracing education and learning, building your confidence, and making it look cool in the process. We appreciate you for checking in!
Keep it REAL.
