REAL Talk #32

As educators and students, we’re sure you’re dealing with a lot of schoolwork at this point of the school year. There are a lot of assignments that are beginning to pile up and a lot of exams coming your way. We get it, which is why we’re keeping this post a bit shorter than usual. Let’s keep it REAL, we all want to be successful. We all want to be able to look back on our lives and appreciate all of the accomplishments we were able to achieve. There are so many opportunities in this life that we could take full advantage of; so why aren’t more of us “successful”? Well, it does depend on your definition of success. If you look up the definition of success on Google, you’ll find a few different definitions. The first is “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” Then there’s “the attainment of fame, wealth, or social status.” Whatever your definition of success is, we can all agree that we want it! But how do we get it?

Do you remember our REAL Values? We hope so! But here’s a friendly reminder… our values consist of Honesty, Loyalty, Effort, Wisdom, Belief and Appreciation. This is what it takes! If you want to be successful in anything you do, these values will help you along the way. Do you also remember REAL Success? This post was a great breakdown of how to achieve success, but we want to go a step further… Embracing The Grind is the only way you will not only attain success, but also sustain it.

Let’s use an example to explain what The Grind is all about. Let’s say you’re on one side of a wall, let’s call that the present. Now, let’s say success is on the other side of that wall. The wall is The Grind. You have to go through The Grind to get to the other side. We want you to understand that there is no other way around that wall. Let’s keep it REAL, we’ve all hit that wall at some point in our lives. The people who are truly successful understand that the wall is just another part of the process. It’s inevitable.

The Grind is the part of the process that makes you stronger and better. It’s tough, but it’s worth it. When you finally break through that wall, you realize that the other side to success is much more gratifying because you’ve experienced what it takes to make it. We want everyone to experience success, but we all must understand that The Grind is all up to you. We, unfortunately, can’t do the work for you. There is no cheat code for getting through the wall. The best advice we have is to continue to recognize the purpose of why you must go through the wall to get to success. The sooner you embrace The Grind, the more likely you are to achieve the success you deserve!

Keep it REAL.
