Michel Wilcox Jr.

My name is Michel Wilcox Jr. I was born in Cleveland and attended Shaker Heights High School. While growing up my parents taught me the value of education and how it should not be taken for granted. With aid from my parents and faculty at school I was able to be more successful academically in junior high and high school. Through my success I was able to participate in activities such as MAC Scholars (Minority Achievement Committee), KNOW Abuse Leaders, and High School Baseball. While participating in these activities I gained even more role models and encouragement to continue my path to higher education while staying true to myself.

Currently, I am attending The Ohio State University on an academic scholarship and will be entering my Sophomore year this fall. I am currently in the Engineering Scholars Program and entered my freshman year majoring in Pre-Mechanical Engineering. Adjusting to my first semester of college was difficult due to the high amount of course work required, the difficult classes, and attending virtual lectures. Even with the initial setbacks I was able to pull through with tutoring and hard work. Despite my best efforts I was not accepted into the major of mechanical engineering, however I accepted my offer into the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering (FABE). I plan to focus my education in Biological Engineering specifically in Genetics.

In the future, I wish to participate in more extracurriculars, continue networking, and apply for internships. In addition, I wish to finish school and receive my Bachelor’s and eventually my Master’s Degree. For my future career in my field, I wish to research solutions to problems and help others.
