My name is Amani Dickerson, and I hail from Bowling Green, Ohio. I am thrilled and honored to be selected as a REAL Student of the Month, recognized for my academic achievements and leadership qualities.
I graduated from Maumee Valley Country Day School with a 3.5 GPA. Throughout my high school years, several influential figures have guided my journey. One such individual is Ms. Sarah Lester, who has tremendously transformed my writing skills. Her guidance and support have paved the way for me to become a confident and proficient writer. Additionally, Ms. Mallory Brazeau has played a pivotal role in reshaping my perception of high school. She has been a steadfast supporter, both inside and outside the classroom, helping me navigate the challenges and celebrate the successes.
Outside of the classroom, basketball has been a significant part of my life. This sport has helped me develop my athletic abilities and fostered some of my closest friendships. I was honored to be named First Team All TAAC, All-District, and Second Team All Ohio. I averaged 20 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game during my senior year. I shot 51% from the field, 40% from three-point range, and 84% from the free-throw line. My favorite player is Rob Dillingham, whose style and dedication inspire me greatly.
I became actively involved with the local non-profit organization BRAVE (Black Rights Activism Visibility and Equity) during my junior and senior years. This involvement allowed me to contribute to various Juneteenth programs. I cherished the sense of inclusivity and community that Brave provided, and it was deeply fulfilling to help other black people feel supported and valued.
Preparing for my first college basketball season, I dedicate my summer to rigorous training. I need to balance this with quality time spent with family and friends. I am working at McDonald’s and doing DoorDash deliveries to support my college expenses, aiming to save up for the upcoming academic year.
In the fall, I will embark on the next chapter of my journey at Capital University. I am excited to pursue a marketing degree and minor in film production. These fields captivate me because they allow me to merge creativity with strategy, and I have fallen in love with bringing projects to life. I envision a future where I can create compelling commercials, dynamic basketball reels, and insightful documentaries. I believe that marketing and film complement each other perfectly, providing a powerful platform for storytelling and influence.
The people I look up to the most are my parents and God. They have each given me many tools I have used to achieve my success. God has helped me through many challenging situations and guided me through the good ones.
As I look ahead, my aspirations include extending my basketball career and making a significant impact in marketing and film. I am enthusiastic about the opportunities and am committed to making the most of every experience.
