Aleah Jackson

My name is Aleah Jackson. I am from Georgia, East Atlanta/ Decatur to be exact. I graduated high school in 2016 and attended the University of Georgia (UGA) and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2020. After graduating from UGA I took a gap year to take additional prerequisite courses and apply to graduate school. In 2022 I graduated from Meharry Medical College with a Master’s in Health Science with highest honors. Immediately following graduation, I began dental school, pursuing a Doctor of Dental Surgery (2026).

Today I am a third-year dental student at Meharry Medical College. In my dental school career, I have received Dean’s List (3.5 GPA or higher) each year. I am a Tennessee AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Scholar 2023-2025. TN AHEC provides additional training to become a culturally competent healthcare provider with emphasis on underrepresented minorities, in rural and underserved areas. I am the President of the Meharry Chapter American Dental Education Association (ADEA). Previous leadership as the Legislative Liaison for the American Student Dental Association with the opportunity to lobby to state senators on behalf of the entire dental profession, and act as the ADEA class representative.

When I am not in class or treating patients, I am volunteering and living out the mission of Meharry Medical College “Worship of God through service to mankind”. I am a first-generation college student and the first person in my entire family to pursue a doctorate. Although dental school is tough, I am thankful to be in this position. I am honored to help my community especially those that look like me, knowing they trust me more and that I am inspiring someone overwhelms my heart and inspires ME to keep going.

In the near future, I plan to apply to dental residency to specialize in orthodontics which could be an additional 2-3 years after graduating from dental school. After residency I plan to return home to Georgia to be closer to my family and continue to change lives one smile at a time. Until then, I will continue to make my ancestors, my community, and myself proud by being the best DOCTOR I know to be.
