Hi! I’m Jada Mays
I was originally born in Florida but I moved to Houston, Texas very soon after!
Around the time i started middle school — I entered Alvin ISD, where I attended Manvel Junior High & Manvel High School. Over my time there I had many great teachers and educators that impacted me. In regards to my biggest influences to my chosen career field is Ms. Bowman & Mrs. Thorne. These two ladies opened my eyes to the Criminal Justice system and Forensic Science.
In high school, I was on the varsity dance team for 4 years (The Manvel Majestics), where I held a leadership position for 2 years being Vice president and The social media chair. Being apart of that team, I gained many core values of leadership and the Head director lead me so well, her name is Mrs. White.
I am currently a student at Sam Houston State University, studying Criminal justice and forensic science! Eat em up Kats! I am entering my second year but I am a junior. I did dual credit/community college in high school which allowed me to gain an associates degree before my diploma!
I am apart of a few organizations — National association of Blacks in Criminal Justice (NABCJ), Campus outreach (Christian Ministry), and Black forensic Network (A new organization on campus starting its first year)! I am on the executive board for NABCJ as the Historian & Press and Publication chair and BFN as the Event Coordinator. I have done volunteer work being in NABCJ for nursing homes, creating drives for causes and much more. I volunteer at the SAAFE house in Huntsville for Domestic and Sexual Violence victims.
My sought after career is to the be a crime scene investigator. I am just wanting to be able to work in the criminal justice system in some capacity — another avenue is the Courts. I do finish college relatively early (A year and a half early) and get to start earlier than the average graduate which I am grateful for. I understand and fully trust the plan that is created for my future and I am using my time on campus to make a difference!
