Hello, my name is Nyijah and I am from Youngstown, Ohio. My mom later moved us to Columbus, Ohio in search of a better life and greater opportunities. That transition shaped my resilience and adaptability from a young age. During my eighth-grade year, I had a counselor who became a significant influence—an adult who truly believed in me and helped guide me during a formative time. After graduating I began working in a pharmacy, which marked the start of my career and taught me responsibility, compassion, and the value of helping others. My past is made up of meaningful transitions, challenges, and encouragement that helped shape who I am today.
Currently, I am focused on building a future rooted in purpose and service. I am currently completing my associate degree in nursing and preparing to transfer to The Ohio State University to earn my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Alongside my studies, I work at a children’s hospital in behavioral health, where I have discovered a deep passion for helping children and making a meaningful difference in their lives. Every day, I am reminded why I chose this path. Balancing school, work, and motherhood has not been easy, but being a mom motivates me to keep pushing forward and to lead by example with strength, compassion, and determination.
When I think about my future, I plan to complete my BSN and continue working with children, with a strong interest in becoming a psychiatric nurse or working in adolescent medicine. Supporting children and adolescents through their mental health and life challenges is something that truly speaks to my heart. At the same time, I know how important it is for me to slow down and be present as a mom, and I plan to take time to fully enjoy and prioritize my daughter before further advancing my career. I want her to see not only my dedication to my work, but also my commitment to being there for her. No matter where my path leads, I am focused on building a future filled with purpose, growth, and love.
