What’s up? We always start by appreciating you for checking out our latest posts. We are so grateful for the REAL ones who have taken the time to focus on how they can improve. Let’s keep it REAL, we can all get better everyday at something. That’s where we come in! We want to continue to give you something worthwhile that adds value to your life.
Mindfulness has emerged as a promising strategy for not only improving your mental state, but also conditioning your mind to take a break. As you know, we are always trying to provide you with resources that can give you more information than our brief posts may offer. We won’t get too deep into different strategies (because there are so many and we don’t want to overwhelm you right away), but a great resource that can help is a book called Practicing Mindfulness by Matthew Sockolov which offers 75 different strategies that help with decreasing stress, finding peace and improve your overall mental health. It’s called “Mindfulness” but the point is to clear your mind and provide clarity.

Let’s keep it REAL, we are all vulnerable to experiencing stress, worry and anything else that falls within that family of emotions. We all fear something, whether it’s failure or embarrassment, these experiences exist, and we have to find a way to correct our negative emotions when they occur. We won’t be able to effectively suppress our stress so that it never appears, but we can use mindfulness to help us deal with the stress once it happens. Here’s a quick scenario for our high school student readers: So, you’re up late doing your homework. You decide to take a mini-break (which is highly recommended but limit the break to 10-20 minutes then get back to work) and you check your phone. You got a text from your older brother that says, “Why did you leave your shoes in my room? It’s so annoying and I hate you.”
Now, you have a couple of choices you can make, and we all know The Power Of Our Choices. Essentially, you can either become aggressive toward your brother or you can become passive. Either way, you’re going to eventually have to deal with the situation because you two live together. Something very subtle that you can do is literally close your eyes, focus on your breath (by literally telling yourself to “breathe” on each exhale) and sit still for one minute. Yes, you only have to do this for one minute to begin to feel results, but you have to find what works for you. Mindfulness might also be a good opportunity to consider the consequences of your actions and make a responsible choice. That’s also why we wanted to provide a resource with over 70 strategies because we all have our unique way of processing our emotions and how we decide to deal with them.

Mindfulness is simple but can have a positive impact on your life. A simple mindfulness exercise when you begin to get emotional can effectively redirect your emotional actions into something positive. We are aware that mindfulness is becoming more and more popular so you might already be familiar with it, but hopefully this brief post was valuable to you in a way that either serves as a friendly reminder or provides beneficial strategies for you to begin to experience peace through the practice of mindfulness. Again, thank you so much for your support and we look forward to providing more value to the culture.
Keep it REAL.
