Thanks for checking in during this down time! We appreciate your interest as a student and lifelong learner as we share with you this culture of education that is based on positivity, diversity, hard work, success and much more! We want to discuss the power of ownership. Taking ownership as a student is a powerful move to make as you further your education. It can help you develop characteristics that become the foundation of your future, academically and professionally. As a student, recognizing and acknowledging that you own many aspects of your journey can lead to a bright and successful future!

As a student, you own who you are. We encourage you to change your perspective to one that views yourself as being in control of your academic success. This also means you are in control of your destiny, academically. In other words, your identity as a student is in your hands. For example, by using your resources as a student, you can network your way to academic success. This can mean asking the right questions to the right person who can set you in the right direction toward whatever your dreams are.
One of the first steps of ownership as a student is to own what type of student you are. Ask yourself, “What type of student am I?” Once you can answer that question, you can begin to tune into the characteristics that influence your role as a student. Ideally, we believe every student should aim to achieve characteristics that can help them achieve the future they desire to have. Identifying your characteristics, therefore, helps correct, improve, or maintain values within yourself that help you succeed inside and outside the classroom environment. A good place to start to help you along the way is a review of REAL Values that you can use as a foundation for success.

As previously promised, we don’t want to overwhelm you with a ton of reading because hopefully you are already taking advantage of the reading opportunities that we have offered in our How To Have A Productive Summer blog. So, we will leave you with Part 1 of The Power of Ownership and check out Part 2, which further discusses the importance of ownership as it relates to building relationships and recognizing the best environment for your academic success as a student. Thank you for checking in and we look forward to your success as our future leader.
Keep it REAL.
