What’s up! Welcome back to Part 2 of The Power of Ownership. If you haven’t already, check out Part 1, which will give you some insight into why owning who you are as a student is so important for your academic success. We want you to know that there are many aspects of being a student that you are in control of. As you determine your role as a student, becoming aware of what you own is another important piece for achieving academic success.
First, you own the time you put into your school work that affects your academic progress. This means you should consider that your time is valuable and should be used to further your academic development. We encourage you to plan when you will dedicate time to complete your homework, go to work, play a sport, or interact with others. If you need some help with this, another great resource would be to check out How To Give Yourself More Time.

Second, you own the relationships that you create. Specifically, the relationships that can help you network and build social connections. We want to share the importance of forming relationships that are based on mentorship and guidance since these relationships often support your student development and success. Check out How To Make Your Dreams REAL, which discusses the importance of mentors and how you can use your mentors to accelerate your success as a student!
Another key aspect of ownership as a student is the environment you surround yourself with. This is important because surrounding yourself with people and things that positively support your student development can profoundly progress your academic success. Become mindful and acknowledge the environment that benefits you as a student. Also, make it a habit to surround yourself with things that remind you of your purpose as you further your education.

As a student, the final key aspect that you own is why you’re a student in the first place. It is extremely important to know this because it is a primary component that will guide your academic future and success. To help you figure out your purpose as a student, we encourage you to reflect internally so you can determine your passion. This can be related to discovering the subject you favor the most, the material(s) you like to use, the type of profession you want to pursue, the learning objectives that are most interesting to you and more! The goal is to never forget why you are a learner because there is Power In Choice that can transform your life for the better.
We appreciate you for wanting to better yourself as a student and future leader. Understanding the power you have as a student can lead to progress, not only for yourself, but for our culture. You, yes you, are an important part of our success. No pressure, but we are leaning on you to create a future for our culture that embraces the importance of education and learning. You have the power to create a positive perspective of education and learning that contributes to the success of the next generation. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your journey and we look forward to the bright future that we know you will create for all of us.
Keep it REAL.
