Colin Searle

I grew up in Los Angeles, California, for 18 years of my life until my family and I moved out to Columbus, Ohio. A place we have never visited before. A fresh start, you can say. Let’s back track, though, to when I lived in Los Angeles and what it taught me moving forward into the person I am today. My biggest leader is my mom. She was essentially the one who raised my older sister and me for most of our lives. She taught me to always be kind and communicate. Focus on school so you can one day in life do what you love, and most importantly, be yourself. I took this advice into middle school, high school, and the jobs I worked back in Los Angeles. My first job was working at the LEGO store. Then my second job was working at California Pizza Kitchen. I loved both of these places even before working there, and I got the lucky opportunity to work at both of them, and I learned a lot. Customer service, time management, cash register phone calls, and most importantly, responsibility. In school, one teacher stood out to me the most. My 12th-grade English teacher, Ms. Ramzi. She was the reason I got a 95 percent in my first college English class. She helped me through a difficult time in life and taught me more than just how to write an essay. To this day, I use her teaching, my mom’s teaching, and what I learned from my jobs to be the student and person I am. I’m still learning a lot every day and taking each step by step.

Currently, I am 19 years old in my second semester of community college, which is about to start in 6 days. I am taking a second Econ class to help with my business major, then I am taking math, English, and a science to help with college credits. Also, other than school, I work two jobs right now. My first job, funny enough, is at a LEGO retail store. Not the LEGO store, but we are a franchise that sells used and new LEGOs. Then my second job is at a pizzeria. Which I am not only learning how to make pizzas, but also how to cook in general, which is a life skill in itself. With the combination of school and two jobs, this semester will be challenging, but I know that I can work on getting good grades with school and still be productive with my two jobs.

I plan to finish out the two years at Columbus State, then transfer to Ohio State to go into Business Sports Management. In my ideal world, I want to go into the field of motorsport racing. Ohio has a lot of great opportunities for racing, with the Mid-Ohio racetrack being so close to Columbus. I am still pretty unsure what comes after college, but for the rest of college, I am focusing on school and my major, so one day I can have a job that I enjoy going to work for. Also, moving up within the ranks at work to make more money, and to add to my savings for my future. Those are my plans for the next 4 years of my life.
