My name is Avery Puffer and I am a student at Hilliard Davidson High School, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. One of the biggest influences in my life has been my mom who has always supported and encouraged me. Her example taught me to always be kind to others, to work hard in school, to strive to be the best version of myself and to persevere no matter what life throws at you. One of my favorite teachers, Dr. Carter, actually modeled these same things to us with his own life experience and that really inspired me. I’ve applied these life lessons with each new school year as every year balancing harder classes, homework, sports, activities and my job has become more challenging. But people grow when challenged and learning to balance these things has helped me become a much better student, communicator, friend and coworker.
My last year of high school starts soon and it will definitely keep me busy. I am taking mostly college level classes and will be involved in several extracurricular activities like our National Honor Society, Yearbook Club, Hope Squad, Club Volleyball and Interact Club. I’ve served on the executive board of our Interact Club (a Rotary-sponsored service club with over 150 members at our school) for the last few years. During my senior year I will serve as Vice President of Interact Club and I’m really looking forward to this service and leadership opportunity. All of these activities along with the part time job I’ve had for over a year now have helped me prepare for the real world. I’ve learned to honor commitments, manage responsibilities, be a team player and how all of these things work together to build integrity.
I am set to graduate high school in 2027. While I haven’t decided on a final college destination just yet, I’m enjoying visiting campuses and ultimately hope to pursue a career in Biology, Pre-Med or Nursing with a minor in Spanish. In the meantime, I hope to soak up the memories of our final year of high school while also preparing for the exciting new chapter of what comes next.
